Marine Biologist Visit To P1/2

7th May 2026
This term we have been focusing on the theme of Holidays and Under The Sea so we were delighted to welcome Paul, a marine biologist, into our classroom today. Paul told us all about his job studying marine mammals and fish, whilst showing us the equipment that he uses to track whales and sharks. Paul’s job has taken him all over the world and he explained how the seas around our country and the seas in places such as the Bahamas differed - he told us that in Ireland we have murky waters which are actually full of nutrient rich plankton for the sea mammals to eat. Paul brought along lots of very interesting objects for us to see including shark egg remnants, shark teeth, a variety of shells, tracking equipment and a scuba diving suit. Some of the children got to try the suit on and Paul showed them how to breathe using the mouthpiece and oxygen tank. We finished the session with some fantastic questions from the children and Paul was very impressed with how articulate the children were. A huge thank you to Paul for such a fun and informative presentation, he truly inspired us all!
