Shared Education with Liam Kelly

21st May 2021

The P5-P7 children along with the P6 and P7 children from Coagh PS had another fantastic afternoon for their joint online Shared Education Partnership with Mr. Liam Kelly https://www.facebook.com/worriedwilliam/

Liam talked to the children about his expressing his feelings through poetry and helping the children to write poems. A key message to the children was that his emotions, words and feelings determined the poems he produced which in turn helped others. A lot of his poems are freestyle poems and advised the children to note down whatever thoughts and feelings come naturally to them at that time and to tell people about how they feel. Most importantly that poem can be fun and there will be times were everyone will feel happy, sad, lonely, upset or frustrated and to use those times to help with their poems.

It was great to hear the first poem Liam created when he was 9 years old called ‘YOU’ and two other favourites of his was ‘Why can’t I be like this every day?’ and ‘Superhero’ which he wrote with his mum.
He is currently in the process of completing his third poetry book and the children from both schools will get the opportunity to write their own poems and they may be included in his book which is very exciting for the children.

In the next few weeks the children will produced their own poems and the pupils from both schools will collaborate together online to review and offer feedback before producing their own Shared Education Poem Book before inviting Liam to offer his thoughts.

We offer Liam our best wishes as he is launching his poetry book today called ‘HIDDEN WORDS’ and he wants this book to inspire children, young people and adults to talk and let their words be heard!

Thank you again Liam on another an excellent day for the children.👍
