Today we began learning about what makes up music. We looked at the musical elements focusing on texture. Listening to a piece of pop music ‘Shallow’ and classical music by Bach allowed us to see how texture can be thin (few instruments), medium (a group of instruments) or thick (lots of instruments playing different things). After this, we learnt how the texture of music can help tell a story. We got into groups and made our own sound story compositions. Photos were shown of the beginning and middle of the story. Pupils had to make their own music using texture to build tension as the story unfolded. They had to chose either a happy ending or a sad ending and make their composition match this.
