Ballylifford Primary School

Learning Support

Ballylifford PS is an all-inclusive school and all children are welcome. Individual Education Plans are drawn up to ensure a carefully planned programme is in place for children with Special Educational Needs. Teachers monitor, assess and record children’s learning and progress regularly using a range of strategies to ensure needs are being met and to set targets for the future.

The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator liaises closely with the Principal and staff to ensure that the needs of all children are being met by supporting staff with the formulation of individual education plans and resources. The school has a comprehensive monitoring and screening programme in place from P1 to identify children with individual needs. Should a child’s problems present as more complex, then the school will enlist the help of outside professionals. The school currently has a teacher trained in reading recovery and two classroom assistants trained in reading partnership.
